Bridge Butlers

The "Butlers' are small handheld boxes rather like a calculator that are used to enter the results. They are are battery operated and have no wires attached communicating by two way radio with the "Master" controller.
Each table requires a Butler. Some events may also wish to retain a traveller . In practice the Butlers can be used by either all the NS pairs or travel with all the EW pairs.

The score is entered in whatever manner the player feels comfortable with eg 4H 11 S or 4H+1 S or 4H S 11 for example. When a valid result has been entered the Butler will automatically display the correct score for the hand.It even knows the vulnerability. This is shown to the opponents to verify and is then 'confirmed'. It is also possible to enter averaged boards. Once the result is confirmed the pairs can see how well they have performed on that board relative to all the other scores. This is shown as a percentage. If the event has been set up as a Barometer event you can also see how well you're doing so far (often very depressing in my case ! ).

The Butlers also keep track of the boards and the players, when a movement is called for example during a Howell they might display :-

NS goto 3EW - EW goto 5EW

Boards goto 6

On arrival at your new table you are informed of the pair numbers and the boards you should be playing. It is even possible to display the names of the players !

Please note the photograph is of a development unit and final production will differ !
